Casa das Penhas Dourad is a charming hotel located at an altitude of 1500 metres, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, with a unique mountain landscape. The hotel was born in 2010 in Penhas Douradas, the first mountain resort in Portugal, designed by the doctor Sousa Martins following the 1881 Scientific Expedition carried out by the Lisbon Geographical Society to the Serra da Estrela, which considered it the healthiest place in Portugal. 130 years later, Casa das Penhas Douradas has taken up the concept of the expedition that revealed this unexplored place. Perfectly integrated into its surroundings and inspired by the local architecture, the hotel has been remodelled using natural materials such as cork and birch wood, which insulate the exterior and interior of the building, and has an architecture with simple lines by the hand of architect Pedro Brígida. The hotel has 17 rooms and 1 suite, all with panoramic views and an intimate atmosphere of great comfort. They are lined with birch wood and have large windows and balconies offering unobstructed views of the Serra da Estrela mountains. All have central heating, hairdryer, toiletries, telephone, LCD TV, Wi-Fi and fresh fruit. The rooms, with their huge windows, extend the view over the landscape. The décor is in warm, cosy tones and features pieces by Nordic and Portuguese artists and designers, such as Catarina Pinto Leite, Hans Wegner, Bruno Mathsson, Borg Mogensen, Pedro Silva Dias.
