Later on, it was named Hotel Bristol, for a period it was a temperance hotel, and during World War II the Germans occupied the hotel. After the war the hotel got new owners, and they gave the hotel its present name: Hotel Phoenix. According to the mythology the firebird Phoenix lives for many years before it burns up and resurrects. This is precisely what happened to the hotel: at first it was renovated from top to bottom and later it was extended with a new story.
